While we know that valuations have dropped from the highs of 2021, there are still very good reasons to potentially sell your business in 2023.

  1. Owners have years of a strong bull market that has built up value of the historical financials to provide strong historical valuations.
  2. With an economy in turmoil with a looming recession, new investors and board can provide much more experience and advising to help resolve future issues.
  3. New investors will bring additional exposure to capital that may needed to bridge a rough patch.
  4. Having capital partners that are prepared, ready, and equipped to take advantage of opportunities that will come in.

While the up-front valuation may be less than those in 2021-2022, selling in the coming year could create much more value for owners in the long run.

Just like the adage- Money can be made in bull markets, but fortunes are made in bear markets. Having the right partners can give owners access to opportunities they don’t currently have.
